Compton’s Coffee House on Fillmore Street lands comfortably as a neighborhood hub for both quick caffeine fixes and longer, leisurely visits. This café blends the casual, bustling energy of San Francisco’s city life with cozy corners that encourage staying a while — if you can snag a seat. Its charm partially comes from a balance of indoor and outdoor seating, though the indoor spots fill up quickly, especially during busy hours.

The coffee here caters to those who appreciate a well-crafted drink without fuss. Whether you're ordering a cappuccino, a creamy oat flat white, or exploring one of their more unique offerings like the vegan matcha latte or a floral-inspired lavender latte, the baristas serve consistently smooth and thoughtfully prepared beverages. The menu covers the classics with a few seasonal twists, and while the addition of non-dairy milk comes at a small extra charge, the quality rarely disappoints.

Compton’s has a steady local following, appealing to morning commuters looking for a robust cold brew or an early espresso, as well as afternoon visitors who settle in with a croissant or lemon poppy seed muffin. The outdoor seating area adds a layer of casual enjoyment, especially on sunlit days when it’s possible to catch a bit of street music alongside your drink. Its vibe feels welcoming without being pretentious—good for solo coffee breaks, casual chats, or even remote work sessions if you arrive early enough to find a seat.

While it tends to get busy late in the day, especially near closing time, the staff's friendliness and efficient service help keep the experience relaxed. For locals in the Fillmore neighborhood or visitors wandering this part of San Francisco, Compton’s offers a reliable spot to pause, enjoy some thoughtfully prepared coffee, and soak in the everyday hum of city life.

Lovely café with excellent drinks! Their seasonal drink menu is always special, with my favorite drink ever made coming from there. The vibes inside and outside are nice, although you’ll be luckily to get a table inside.

Excellent, smooth coffee! Have been here twice and each time the service was super friendly, fast, and felt very welcoming. I had an oat flat white each time and both times it was smooth and strong. Sat outside and got to enjoy a little music, too!

One of my literal favorite cafes in SF!! Such a friendly vibe + cute atmosphere (been to both locations). They charge +0.75 for non dairy milk (BOOO) but the coffee is good and the baristas are so friendly! love this place and will be a repeat customer

I tried the lavender latte, and it was absolutely delightful! The rich coffee paired perfectly with the subtle floral notes, making for a truly enjoyable drink. Not only was the latte fantastic, but the service was also top-notch. I highly recommend giving it a try!

We were in the neighborhood and looking for coffee. We were pleasantly surprised by this cute little cafe. We got the cappucino and the Flat White, both were really good! There was decent amount of seating inside and outside but it was fairly crowded even though we went around closing time.

Nice little coffee joint with fast and friendly service. I tried their capacinno, and it is among the best I had. Place is tiny, so it is hard to find a place to sit inside. They have some limited seating outside, which is also always occupied. Overall, it's a good spot to sit and soak up san francisco vibes! Place has one restroom, but usually, there is a line during rush hour.

I've tried the latte and flat white here. Both times, my drink came out at the perfect temperature - hot but not tongue-scalding. The espresso was *strong*, and the steamed milk had the perfect creamy mouthfeel, with an extra bonus of pretty art. It was quite busy when we stopped by shortly before lunchtime on a Saturday. There was a line out the door, but it moved quickly; it took a bit longer to get our drinks, but understandable given their popularity. There's some seating inside and outside. The staff we interacted with were all lovely. I wish I lived closer to Compton's so I could go more often!

December 2025 American cafe with friendly neighborhood feels. A good selection of drink options as well as single origin beans . Counter service is standard. Place has a community feel with limited seating due to a number of remote working diners. Al fresco area available.
